WHO IS WHOLISTIC WELLNESS 
Timea Szalay Onaka is a lactation consultant and holistic lifestyle coach, based in Ontario, Canada. She has spent the last 14 years educating, supporting and empowering new mothers struggling with breastfeeding or health challenges. Working with her clients from the comfort of their homes, she helps them embrace their innate capabilities as mothers, confidently make decisions and achieve their personal goals. She believes every mother deserves the highest standard and most compassionate, non-judgmental level of care.

THE BEGINNING
As Timea put it: “I was “brandless” for many years and it really did feel like I was floating around with no sense of direction. My Mom used to have a saying that someone “buys the button before the coat”. That’s what it felt like with my business. I’d never built my brand holistically, even though I know from my work in Wholistic Wellness how important a wholistic approach is! I waited 12 long years to take the plunge because I thought it seemed out of my budget and I was looking for the right person to work with who was soul-aligned. When I stumbled upon Emma at Soul Stirring Branding it was like a light bulb went off. My intuition said “oh my god, that’s my person!”

PREVIOUS BRANDING 
Timea started with a logo which felt more like a piece of art than a streamlined, professional logo. It was hard to read as the font size was much smaller than the icon.  Additionally we felt the naked woman on the lotus over the moon might come across as a bit confronting or confusing to her high end breastfeeding clientele. She loved her dark purple and dark grey colour palette, but it felt at odds with the soft, compassionate feel we want to come through to reflect her energy. Other visual elements such as typography, graphics and photography had not been approached consistently in her brand and we needed to work to tighten those areas up!

OUR STRATEGY
One thing that we picked up while diving deep into the heart and soul of her business was her big point of difference. She spoke about her gentle, calming, supportive and non-judgmental energy she brings to every client’s experience that we knew we needed to infuse that into her brand identity! She told me a story about how one of her client’s husband took a photo of Timea, framed it, and put it on the coffee table. When she asked him why he did it when she saw it in their next session, he said he had noticed his wife was so calm and relaxed when Timea had sat beside her during a feeding and how she was easily able to latch their baby. So he figured if his wife looked at the photo, she would get that same calm feeling like Timea was there supporting her. It worked! That story is a testament to the personality and energy Timea brings to the table. Additionally she is an absolute wealth of knowledge, with 14 years in the industry, looking after over 3,000 babies, and being able to help even the most challenging cases. We wanted to create the personality of compassionate, nurturing and knowledgable.

LOGO CONCEPT 
One thing Timea told me upfront was how the hummingbird was her favourite animal and she had a tattoo of it on her arm. She was also very attracted to the infinite flow of swirling shapes. So I took this inspiration and interpreted it into the logo design. I liked the correlation between a hummingbird sucking on a flower’s nectar and the act of breastfeeding. It was important that the reference was subtle and could also just be interpreted as a soft, nature inspired reference. I focused on a balance between the clean and simple “Wholistic” font with the flowing yet highly readable “Wellness” font. The result was a unique and eye-catching logo which set her apart from others in her field.

THE COLOUR PALETTE 
I wanted to move Timea away from the dark colours, which brought the tone of the brand in a more sombre direction than we wanted. Instead I retained the purple, but softened it and combined it with a soft pink and mint green. The result was a very compassionate and nurturing feel that you just want to dive into and cuddle up with!

THE GRAPHIC ELEMENTS 
A gorgeous suite of graphic elements were developed to bring the brand to life. Three watercolour painting textures were created to bring a soft, compassionate feel. An icon style of purple outsides, white fills and a hand-drawn line were created, which were popped inside watercolour circles. The hummingbird icon was used with a swirl as a decorative element to sit in headlines.

After working with Emma, I can say with confidence that I have no regrets about my decision. The whole branding process blew me away. I am a very picky person by nature, so I was terrified of not liking the outcome. But what is distinct about Emma’s process, is how long she takes to understand your business. She truly got to know me from half way across the world! From her initial workbook, to our strategy session, Emma pushed me to find myself. It was healing in a sense because I asked myself the deep questions I had never even contemplated asking myself and got really clear on the direction of my business. So despite my pickiness, I had faith that if I was honest in the information I provided Emma with, she would understand what I was after. She did not disappoint! Although it took me several days to strike up the courage to open her branding presentation, I was totally wowed by the logo and supporting visual elements from the first iteration. I was very surprised that she overcame my pickiness and I loved the outcome without changes needed. The visual branding feels like a part of me now. Since the rebrand I have only received positive feedback and to now have the new website up and running too feels like a weight has lifted off my shoulders. The training she provided gives me so much reassurance and relief that I will be able to update it and maintain it myself. I’m now so proud to show off my branding to the world and it has given me so much confidence!
