WHO IS GROW INTO YOUR STRENGTH?
Grow into Your Strength are dedicated to helping adult women and young adults who witnesses domestic violence at home growing up. When children have these experiences, they take a lot of false beliefs about themselves and the world with them into adult life. Founder Deb, based in the UK, knows first hand what her audience feels like, because she grew up in the same circumstances. She was inspired to start her business because she knew there were so many people out there who were struggling and unable to move past their experiences. She also knew that traditional support services had never worked for her, and she wanted to offer an approach which was dramatically different. She described it as an idea which had been sitting on her heart for many years. Finally she had the courage to take the leap and I know she’s going to go on to impact so many lives! Launching in 2017, Grow Into Your Strength aims to help clients break free from the past and empower their lives!
Deb and I met originally through one of our favourite Facebook groups. We had a beautiful relationship that started as friends first, collaborators second. Deb approached me to work on her branding right from the beginning, in the start up phase. I love working with clients who are trying to make a real difference in the world, so it couldn’t have been more of a perfect fit!
As Deb described it “As a new business just starting up, I really wanted launch in a professional way I could feel proud of and to set my business up for success. Because my business helps clients through a very deep, emotional process, I knew I had to find the right branding professional that would take the time to truly understand it, treat it with sensitivity and bring the right feelings to life. ” Trust building was going to be such an important part of Grow Into Your Strength’s ability to succeed. So having a brand identity which reflected the soul of who Deb was, what she believed in, her personality and energy was so vital. She wanted to create a vibe of energy, vitality and enthusiasm with gentle love, respect and nurturing.
I believe everyone deserves to live a happy, loving, inspired life without fear — especially those who have gone through traumatic childhoods. I grew up witnessing domestic violence, and know first hand how damaging the conditioning, beliefs and patterns which children pick up during the experience are, which they then take into adult life. I was able to release my childhood traumas and step into my own personal strength, through a unique process of experimenting with alternative therapies, to find solutions that genuinely got to the root of the problem. For a long time I felt a restlessness inside myself that I couldn’t shake. I knew my purpose was to use my difficult experiences to make a true difference in the world, by teaching the techniques that worked for me, with other survivors. My hope is that one day, no survivor will let their experiences define their lives, and that they too can grow into their strength.
THE LOGO CONCEPT
Throughout time, the lotus flower has been a powerful spiritual symbol. A lotus has its roots in the mud, at the bottom of streams and ponds. But it grows to become the most beautiful flower despite its origins. An individual lotus can live for over a thousand years and has the rare ability to revive itself after a long period of inactivity. The lotus symbolises how we too can overcome all obstacles on our journey and grow into our true, happy selves and flourish in life. The logo integrates the lotus growth concept in a beautiful way. The flowing look of the “Your Strength” text reflects the look of a stream or pond a lotus might reside in. The result is a simple, modern, yet deeply meaningful message.
THE LOGO CONCEPT
As Deb described it after seeing the concept “I was so set on my images of trees yet funnily enough lately I have been reading and hearing about the Lotus flower, and we have spoke about it a lot this past week whilst on retreat in Bali, about how it rises beautifully out of the mud, I was also given a tiny little handmade soap as a gift (it was lotus flower soap) and now you present it as a theme for my brand — divine intervention is beautiful”.
THE COLOUR PALETTE
The colour palette consists of orchid purple, turquoise and gold. These were picked not only because they visually represent the lotus and the water, but because they psychologically tie into the brand’s core message. The orchid purple is a very introspective colour, allowing us to get in touch with our deeper thoughts and assisting those who seek the meaning of life. The turquoise helps open the lines of communication between the heart and the spoken word. The gold is associated with higher ideals, wisdom, understanding and enlightenment.
THE GRAPHIC ELEMENTS
A soulful, vibrant look was created through the ‘energy’ textures. Deb works with energy, so I wanted this feeling to be represented visually. I created a number of lotus flower depictions to add to the visual theme. I created hand-drawn watercolour illustration and brush stroke textures to give the brand a raw-down-to-earth feel which says “I understand and have empathy for you”. Finally I created a mandala / lotus at birds eye view which is used in a cropped manner at the side of artwork. All in all the various graphic elements brought the brand to life.
When we started the branding Deb had the concept of creating an eBook called “Freeing Little Me”. It was all about releasing the trauma your “little me” experienced growing up. I found the image to represent the concept where an adult woman was holding a young girl. Gorgeous textures and illustrations were overlaid to bring in the brand look and feel.
“After years of dreaming about starting my business and making an impact on the world, to see it all come together in a tangible way through the brand identity presentation was a very emotional experience! My exact feedback was “Emma, I have sobbed through this, I love it so much. I can’t believe what you have created. I am just speechless!” So it really did feel like my dream was becoming real in front of my eyes, and I couldn’t have been happier.
From the way she challenged me to really think about my business and the heart and soul of it, to the beautiful design work, to the way she taught me how to actually use all the brand materials and get the most out of it, to even helping me set up my website, I really did love the whole process. Needless to say I will always recommend Emma to others, and in fact I already have :)”
